Flying Shark of the Day: A loose “Air Swimmer” in the shape of a shark was spotted by a pilot flying over Christchurch International Airport in New Zealand.
The pilot reported seeing the “flying shark” at an altitude of 7,000 feet. New Zealand Air Line Pilots’ Association president Glen Kenny said the popular Christmas toy probably would have done “a bit of damage” to the plane, but engine failure was unlikely.
“Helium is an inert gas, so there’s no issue in that regard,” Kenny said. “The biggest hazard would be startling the pilot.”
